Getting started

How fast can I post a shift?

About a minute for a complete brief. Tell us the trade, the location, the time window, and the rate; AI auto-fills the rest from a plain-English description if you'd rather narrate it. Verified workers see your shift on their dispatch board within a minute of publish.

Which trades do you cover?

Twenty-eight at launch — painter, electrician, plumber, HVAC, carpenter, roofer, drywaller, landscaper, concrete/mason, general labor, handyman, flooring installer, mover, appliance tech, welder, solar installer, garage-door tech, cleaner, glazier, locksmith, ironworker, tile setter, insulation, pool tech, pressure washer, tree service, boiler tech, plus more as the trust ladder gets exercised in each.

Where do you operate?

Southern California first — covering Greater Los Angeles, Orange County, Inland Empire (Riverside / San Bernardino), San Diego County, Ventura County. The trust ladder rolls out market by market — adding a new region means standing up the local license-board integration and the regional verification SLAs, not just opening signups. Next up: Bay Area + Central Valley.

Can I be both a worker and an employer?

Yes. Your worker profile and employer profile live separately under one account. Switch between them from the user menu — every action is recorded against the right side, and the trust profiles don't bleed.

Trust + verification

How do you verify workers?

CrewMonk uses a six-tier trust ladder, picked per shift by the employer: Started → ID Verified → Platform Trusted → Licensed → Insured & Bonded → Enterprise. Identity goes through Persona. Background goes through Checkr. Trade licenses validate against state boards. Insurance is COI-uploaded with expiry monitoring. Each tier is earned, never assigned.

How do I move from Tier 0 to Tier 1, 2, 3?

Each tier requires a verified credential. Tier 0 is a phone-OTP-confirmed account. Tier 1 adds Persona identity verification. Tier 2 adds a clean Checkr background check + a verified reference. Tier 3 adds a state-validated license. Tier 4 adds insurance + bonding. Tier 5 is enterprise/W-2 eligible. Each step is platform-funded; you don't pay to verify.

Who sees my SSN, driver's license, and COI?

Only the verification provider (Persona, Checkr, the state license board, or the COI carrier validator) and CrewMonk admins for review. Employers never see raw documents — they only see the resulting trust tier and badges. Documents are encrypted at rest and rotated; SSN last-4 is the only piece visible inside CrewMonk for matching.

Payment + tax

How does payment work?

Escrow at booking. The employer funds the shift before the worker is dispatched. The worker checks in with GPS and photo evidence at the job site. When the shift completes, payment releases — instant via debit, or two-day ACH for free. Disputes go through a triage flow that holds escrow until both sides agree.

When does my money actually hit my bank?

Standard ACH payouts land in two business days at no cost. Instant payouts to a verified debit card are usually under 30 minutes for a small fee. Payouts run on completed shifts only; in-progress and held-for-dispute escrows don't release.

Will I get a 1099 or W-2?

Most workers on CrewMonk are 1099 contractors and receive a 1099-NEC for the prior year by January 31. Workers who opt into W-2 hiring (Tier 5 enterprise) go through I-9 verification + W-4 onboarding and receive a W-2 instead. CrewMonk handles both flows automatically.

What does it cost?

Free during the public beta. After GA, two no-commitment modes: 25% pay-per-shift, or 18% if you fund your dispatch wallet monthly. Monthly subscription tiers (Starter/Pro/Enterprise) drop the take rate further and unlock more capacity — see the pricing page for the full ladder. Workers keep 100% of the rate they post — the take rate comes from the employer's escrow. We'll send a 30-day notice before any plan starts charging.

Disputes + liability

What if a worker no-shows or doesn't finish?

Open a dispute from the booking page. Escrow holds; CrewMonk reviews the GPS check-in and photo evidence within 24 hours and either refunds you in full, splits the escrow against work completed, or escalates if the worker contests. No-shows hurt the worker's trust score and can drop their tier.

If I'm unhappy with the work, can I get my escrow back?

Yes — flag the booking before approving completion. Provide photos of the issue. CrewMonk's dispute team reviews both sides; outcomes are full refund, split (you pay for hours actually worked), or release as-is. Most disputes resolve in 24–48 hours.

If a worker damages property, who pays?

For Tier 4 (Insured & Bonded) workers, the worker's commercial general liability policy covers job-site damage subject to the policy's terms — CrewMonk verifies coverage and watches expiry. For Tier 0–3 workers, damage claims are between the worker and the property owner; CrewMonk can mediate via the dispute flow but is not a party to the underlying liability.

Account + privacy

How do I delete my account or my data?

Email hello@crewmonk.com from the address on your account. We'll confirm and process within 5 business days. Some records (completed shifts with payouts, tax forms, dispute outcomes) are retained per IRS and state requirements; everything else is purged.

Can I pause my worker profile if I take a break?

Yes — set your status to 'paused' from /worker/profile. You stay in the database, your trust tier holds, and you don't appear in matching. Flip back to 'active' whenever you're ready.
